Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 August 2026. Your privacy is central to how Write About It is built.

Overview Write About It ("the app") is a personal journaling app designed with privacy in mind. This policy explains what data the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. The app has no account system, does not require sign-up, and does not track your behavior across other apps or websites.

What We Collect The app does not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or contact details, and it does not require you to create an account. The only content the app handles is what you choose to write: your journal entries, mood selections, and any optional profile information ("Context") you allow the app to build from your entries.

Where Your Entries Are Stored Your journal entries are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, your entries are also backed up to your own private iCloud account, so you can restore them if you get a new device. This iCloud data is tied to your personal Apple ID and is not accessible to us. We do not operate our own servers that store your entries.

How Reflections Are Generated To generate a reflection, the text of the entry you write is sent securely over an encrypted connection to an external AI service for processing. This happens only at the moment a reflection is created. The text is used solely to produce your reflection and is not retained, sold, or used to train AI models. Only the text needed to generate the reflection is sent; no identifying information about you is attached.

The Context Feature The app can optionally build a short profile ("Context") from your entries to make reflections feel more personal over time. This profile is stored with your entries and, like your entries, is used only to shape your reflections. You can view, edit, or clear it at any time within the app.

Advertising & Install Attribution If you installed the app after seeing an ad, we use Meta's advertising SDK solely to measure whether that ad led to your install, using Apple's SKAdNetwork technology. This is a privacy-preserving system built into iOS: it does not use your device's advertising identifier, does not link your activity across other apps, and does not require the App Tracking Transparency permission prompt because no cross-app tracking occurs. No information about your journal entries, mood, or Context is ever shared for this purpose.

Data You Can Export or Delete Your entries are always yours. You can export your full journal from within the app at any time. You can also delete individual entries or clear your data; deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Subscriptions If you purchase a subscription, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through your App Store account. We do not receive or store your payment details. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Children's Privacy The app is not directed at children under the age required by your local law to consent to data processing, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to This Policy We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here, and continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Contact If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, please reach out through the "Send a message" option in the app's settings.
